About

• Diving made its debut in the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis, and it’s appearance in both springboard and platform events have remained constant since 1908.

• Synchronized diving, where two divers leave the platform or springboard simultaneously and dive together in perfect unison, was introduced to the program at the Sydney 2000 games.

• Athletes compete through acrobatic performances in the air through movements as somersaults, twists, pikes and tucks.

Rules

• Both men and women compete from a 10-meter high dive and a 3-meter springboard in individual and synchronized events.

• The diver performs a single or series of movements within each dive that have an assigned degree of difficulty.

• The diver attempts to perform each dive flawlessly with as little disturbance into the water as possible.
